Installation Instructions

All Purpose Epoxy Coating

Typical Uses: Industrial floors, warehouses, equipment areas, production areas, and general-purpose protective epoxy coating applications.

1. Scope

These instructions cover the installation of Epoxy.com Product #1 All Purpose Epoxy Coating on properly prepared substrates.

Product #1 is a 100% solids epoxy coating used where durability, abrasion resistance, general chemical resistance, and long-term floor protection are required.

Check the Epoxy.com Chemical Resistance Chart to confirm suitability for your specific chemical exposure.

For applications requiring higher chemical resistance, consider Epoxy.com Product #2 Chemical Resistant Epoxy Coating or Epoxy.com Product #633 Novolac Epoxy Coating, depending on the exposure.

2. Substrate Requirements

Concrete

• Minimum 28 days cure per American Concrete Institute (ACI) recommendations
• Structurally sound
• Free of laitance, curing compounds, oils, grease, and contaminants

Steel

• Abrasive blast cleaning preferred
• Alternate preparation methods may be used where blasting is not practical. Contact Epoxy.com Technical Support as needed.

3. Surface Preparation

Surface preparation is critical to system performance.

Concrete

• Mechanically prepare by shot blasting or grinding
• Achieve a clean, sound, open surface profile
• Remove all dust and debris

Steel

• Abrasive blast cleaning preferred
• If abrasive blasting is not practical, mechanically clean and prime as required

4. Priming

Apply an appropriate primer based on substrate and service conditions.

Include one of the following primers as appropriate:

• Product #1 All Purpose Epoxy Coating - used as its own primer where appropriate
• Product #899 - used as a primer where appropriate
• Product #660 Aluminum Filled Primer - for steel substrates

Primer selection should be based on substrate type, moisture conditions, and service requirements.

5. Mixing

• Pre-mix each component separately
• Combine in the proper ratio

Mix for a minimum of 3 minutes using a properly sized mixing paddle in a low-speed drill.

• Scrape the sides and bottom of the mixing container during mixing
• Mix until a uniform, consistent material is achieved

Important: After initial mixing, pour into a second clean container and mix again briefly.

This helps ensure no unmixed material remains on the sides, bottom, or corners of the original container.

6. Application

Apply by roller, squeegee, or brush.

• Apply evenly at recommended coverage rates
• Avoid puddling or dry areas
• Maintain uniform thickness
• Apply additional coats within the recommended recoat window
• If the recoat window is exceeded, mechanically abrade before recoating and solvent wipe

7. Recoat Window

• Minimum Recoat: 10-12 hours, depending on temperature
• Maximum Recoat: 24 hours, depending on temperature

If the maximum recoat window is exceeded, mechanically abrade before recoating and solvent wipe.

8. Cure Schedule

• Light traffic: approximately 24 hours
• Heavy traffic: approximately 48 hours
• Full cure: approximately 7 days

Lower temperatures will slow cure times.

9. Environmental Conditions

• Minimum substrate temperature: 50°F
• Do not apply to surfaces at or below the dew point
• Maintain stable temperature conditions during application and cure
